Dr. Peter Ngene is an assistant professor in the Inorganic Chemistry and Catalysis group of the Debye Institute for Nanomaterials Science, Utrecht University, The Netherlands. He received a bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), Nigeria. He obtained a dual master degree in Nano & Microsystems (Microelectromechanical systems-MEMS) Engineering from ESIEE-Paris, France, and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore. In 2012 he obtained a PhD in Chemical Sciences from Utrecht University, the Netherlands.  From 2012-2014, he was  a postdoctoral fellow in the Materials for Energy Conversion and Storage (MECS) group, department of Chemical Engineering, Delft University of Technology, Netherlands. In 2015, he returned to Utrecht University where he is currently an assistant professor.

He is the recipient of the prestigious KNCV (The Royal Dutch Chemical Association) Van Arkel best PhD thesis (2012/2013) award, and the chair of the 2013 Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) on Metal-Hydrogen system in Italy.

Dr. Ngene is passionate about the development of Nigeria and Africa as a whole. He is a visiting professor at the African University of Science and Technology Abuja (A member of the Nelson Mandela Institute) where he lectures and mentors young graduate students from all African countries. In 2008 he cofounded (with Dr. Sandra Irobi and others) an NGO called the Young Entrepreneurs for Africa (YEFA), with an objective to empower African young professionals and budding entrepreneurs in the Netherlands to be the engine of economic growth and development in Africa. He has been an active member of NIDOE Netherland since 2010, and currently serves as the general secretary.
